ABOUT THE Assembly

The California State Assembly is the lower house of the two legislative houses for the state. Assemblymembers are responsible for introducing and voting on state legislation and also vote to approve the state’s budget each year. Assemblymembers are also responsible for carrying out state agency casework for the people who live in their districts. 

The Assembly has a membership of 80 Assemblymembers elected for 2-year terms. A person may serve no more than 12 years in the Senate, Assembly, or both, in any combination of terms.
