Brian Pacheco grew up as a farmer in Fresno County, later on becoming the president of the Fresno County Farm Bureau. He currently sits on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors and previously was on the Kerman Unified School District Board of Trustees.
Public Safety Platform:
Pacheco does not express his positions on public safety in detail, however, he describes himself as a “different kind of Democrat” and commits to funding law enforcement. He states that as County Supervisor he “delivered $100 million to protect our water, fix roads, and fund police.” Also as County Supervisor, he recently led efforts to limit the amount of people with sex offenses who could reside in unincorporated Fresno County.
Pacheco is also endorsed by several law enforcement agencies, such as the CA Correctional Peace Officer’s Association (CCPOA), the Fresno Deputy Sheriffs Association, and the Peace Officers Research Association (PORAC).

Background:
Mike Murphy is a business attorney by profession who has served two terms as the Mayor of Merced.
Public Safety Platform:
On public safety, Murphy states that “dangerous criminals are released without being held accountable” and that as Assemblymember he would “vote to make sure the law puts victims and families first, not criminals.”
He is endorsed by the Merced County Sheriff, Merced Police Officers Association, and the California Association of Highway Patrolmen.
Because both candidates in this race appear to have strong law enforcement backing and support criminalization measures, IJ Action has no recommendation for AD 27.
