Tony Vazquez is an outgoing member of the State Board of Equalization, where he was first elected in 2018. Before joining the BOE, Vazquez was a City Council Member and Mayor of Santa Monica.

Vazquez does not share his public safety views on his campaign website, however, in an IJ Action endorsement questionnaire from his 2022 BOE reelection campaign, Vazquez shared some of his views on justice reform. While he expressed support for reducing our over-reliance on police and investing more resources in community-based services, he also expressed that he did not support important reforms such as decriminalizing drug use or eliminating fines and fees associated with incarceration. In the same questionnaire, he also did not answer questions related to ending the Three Strikes Law and making sentencing reforms retroactive.

On his current campaign website, he lists his priorities as affordable housing, education, and being a champion for the Latino community.
