Tony Thurmond is currently the outgoing CA Superintendent of Public Instruction, where he has served since 2018. Prior to that role, he served in the State Assembly and on the Richmond City Council.

However, in an interview with ABC 10 Sacramento, he expressed his support for both policing and prevention services, stating: “You have to have police in your community. Someone has to answer the call when a crime has been committed, but you can’t police or arrest your way out of the problems that we are seeing. You have to also have intervention programs.”
