Background:

Laura Bassett is a real estate professional and small business owner who currently serves as a San Diego County Civil Services Commissioner.

Public Safety Platform:

On public safety, Bassett states that she supports a “balanced approach that gives law enforcement the tools they need, strengthens accountability for serious offenses, and maintains fairness within our justice system.”

However, she also criticizes recent justice reforms, stating reforms “have created confusion, weakened accountability, and too often prioritized offenders over law-abiding residents…We must return to a commonsense approach that takes crime seriously while recognizing the dignity of every person involved.” She expresses support for Prop 36, which increased criminal penalties for minor offenses.
