- Background:
Jane Kim is the outgoing Director of the California Working Families Party and was the former California Political Director for Bernie Sanders in 2020 and a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2011-2019. As county Supervisor, she championed progressive causes such as tuition-free community college, increasing minimum wage, and strengthening tenant protections.
- Public Safety Platform:
While the role of Insurance Commissioner does not cover public safety policy, Kim promises many insurance reforms that will serve low-income and working class Californians, such as guaranteeing natural disaster insurance statewide, lowering costs, and making sure that insurance companies actually pay claims. She also promises to create a state option for car insurance to guarantee coverage and lower costs.
She is endorsed by Bernie Sanders, Working Families Party, and many progressive elected federal and state leaders.
