Ben Allen is a State Senator who has served in the Legislature since 2014. Prior to that he served as President of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education and lecturer at UCLA Law School.

While in the Senate, Allen had a somewhat mixed voting record on justice reform, earning an “A” on our Legislative Scorecard in 2023 and 2025, but earning a “C” in 2024 for only voting to support 4 of the 7 bills we prioritized that year.

On his campaign website, Allen emphasizes his track record of environmental justice to prevent climate disasters. Namely, he emphasizes his authorship of Proposition 4, a 2024 ballot measure that established a clean water and fire prevention bond.

In terms of insurance reforms, Allen emphasizes stabilizing the insurance market and making insurance companies be more transparent. He also strongly emphasizes rebuilding confidence in the private market and getting people off of the state-backed FAIR plan to assure fire insurance.
