Republican
Ballot Designation:
State Assemblymember
Law Enforcement Contributions:
Background:
Assemblymember Tangipa was first elected to the Legislature in 2024 and is a former Field Representative for a Fresno County Supervisor. In his first term in office, Assemblymember Tangipa earned an “F” on our Legislative Scorecard, and was a vocal opponent of justice reform. He was one of only a handful of Assemblymembers who did not vote to support SB 245, our co-sponsored bill that created automatic record expungements for formerly incarcerated firefighters
Public Safety Platform:
Assemblymember Tangipa outlines a hardline, pro-law enforcement public safety platform centered on expanding policing and advancing “tough-on-crime” policies. He emphasizes support for anti-crime legislation, aligning himself as a “public safety candidate” backed by multiple law enforcement and correctional officer organizations. His approach prioritizes enforcement and punishment, with no investment in prevention or community-based safety strategies. He is endorsed by several county sheriff’s and law enforcement agencies.
Unfortunately, Tangipa is running unopposed. Because of his extremely poor voting record and clear misalignment with IJ Action’s values, we have no recommendation in this race.
