Background:
Assemblymember González was elected to the Legislature in 2024. Prior to that, he served as the District Director for the former Assemblymember in that district and the Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.
In his first term in office, Assemblymember González was appointed to the Public Safety Committee, where for the most part he voted to support justice reform legislation. He also earned an “A” on our Legislative Scorecard, supporting all of the bills that we prioritized, but also supported AB 468, a bad bill which increases criminal penalties for looting.
Assemblymember Gonzalez also coauthored AB 1646 with Assemblymember Bryan, a good bill that would establish the right of youth confined in juvenile facilities to choose to experience physical contact with visitors during in-person visits.
Public Safety Platform:
On the public safety section of his campaign website, Assemblymember Gonzalez states he is “committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe, getting guns off our streets and out of the hands of criminals, and investing in programs to prevent violent crime and smash-and-grabs” and “In the Assembly, he will work to increase funding for firefighters and paramedics to reduce 911 emergency response times and improve neighborhood safety for seniors, families, and every community.”
Assemblymember Gonzalez is the only person on the ballot and has an overall strong voting record, his support from law enforcement notwithstanding. Therefore, IJ Action recommends voters support his re-election.
