Background:
Assemblymember Rubio was first elected to the State Assembly in 2016, and is an elementary school teacher by training. Prior to running for an Assembly seat, she served two terms on the Baldwin Park Unified School District Board of Education.
Since joining the Legislature, she has not been a supporter of justice reform. She earned an “F” on our Legislative Scorecard in 2023 and 2025, and a “D” in 2024.
Public Safety Platform:
On her campaign website, Assemblymember Rubio highlights the following public safety and criminal justice bills she championed:
AB 2274 Mandated Reporters: Statute of Limitations, which extended the timeline for mandated reporters of suspected child abuse;
AB 789, which allows judges to release someone with multiple failures to appear without a hearing if they are released to a court approved pretrial release program; andAB 866 Juveniles: Care and Treatment, which clarifies that youth in the foster care system, aged 16 and older, who are providing their own consent for medically assisted treatment do not need court approval.
Rubio claims she has brought more than $326 million to the district, including $22,800,000 for police and public safety.
