Background:
Deborah Klein Lopez has been an Agoura Hills City Councilmember since Nov. 2018 and as well as its former Mayor Pro Tem. She has also worked for the State Senate and Assembly, and prior to that spent her career in financial analysis and project management with international companies such as Reuters and J.D. Power and Associates.
Public Safety Platform:
On public safety, Klein Lopez states: “Every resident of District 42 deserves to feel safe at home, at work, at school, and in our public spaces. But rising crime, retail theft, and a lack of adequate resources have left too many families and businesses feeling vulnerable. Klein Lopez has advocated for enhanced public safety at the municipal level on the Council’s Law Enforcement/Fire/Emergency Response Subcommittee and at the state level as a member of the League of California Cities Public Safety Committee.”
Klein Lopez is endorsed by more than 100 women’s, LGBTQ, and environmental groups, Democratic clubs, politicians, and labor unions, including the National Latino Peace Officers Association.
Although Klein Lopez expresses some of the false narratives about rising crime, IJ Action recommends her as the Harm Reduction candidate given the more extreme views of her opponents.

None as of 4/16/26
Background:
Nordblum is a business owner whose work has ranged from being a union heavy equipment operator to building a medical device company, Titan Medical, for the past 20 years.
Public Safety Platform:
Of the top three issues posed on his website, two relate to public safety. Nordblum proposes to ensure safe neighborhoods by giving “law enforcement the resources they need, hold criminals accountable, and tackle the fentanyl crisis that has devastated too many families, including my own.” Nordblum’s brother died from a fentanyl overdose, and in his quest for “answers,” he “saw a state that was failing its most vulnerable. A broken system where criminals are coddled, and families are left to pick up the pieces.”
Nordblum claims “Public safety is the first and most important responsibility of government. I’ll work to ensure that our law enforcement officers have the resources they need to keep our communities safe and that criminals are held accountable for their actions.”
Nordblum promises he “will always back the blue,” and would seek to increase funding, support and training for police and sheriff departments. In terms of the Fentanyl Crisis, he claims he would seek tougher penalties for fentanyl traffickers, increase funding for addiction treatment and increase public awareness about the dangers of the drug. He also argues for increased sentencing and against opportunities to reduce sentences.
