Background:
Assemblymember Ahrens was elected to the Assembly in 2024 after serving as district director for former Assemblymember Evan Low. Prior to that, he was a Trustee on the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Board.
In his first term, Assemblymember Ahrens earned a “B” on our Legislative Scorecard, and introduced AB 461, a bill IJ Action supported, which decriminalized truancy in CA.
Public Safety Platform:
On his campaign website, Assemblymember Ahrens uplifts the false narrative that California is facing “rampant retail theft and increases in property crimes” and also states: “By supporting law enforcement agencies with the resources they need, while also championing criminal justice reform, we can strike a balance that ensures both safety and fairness.”
Although his rhetoric on justice reform is not very strong and he has received campaign contributions from law enforcement, he does have a good voting record and has introduced good legislation. Therefore, IJ Action recommends Assemblymember Ahrens as the Harm Reduction candidate.

Tim Gorsulowsky has founded several security companies and volunteers in various capacities in his community, including serving on the Elk Grove Disability Advisory Committee.
Public Safety Platform:
Gorsulowsky uplifts the false narrative that crime is increasing in California and states: “In the past few years, we have seen laws like Proposition 47 dilute our ability to charge criminal activity and allow criminals to walk the streets. When Elected, I will change the laws in California to give law enforcement the opportunity to charge criminals, and District Attorneys the ability to prosecute with success.”
