Background:
Assemblymember Stefani was first elected to the Assembly in 2024 after serving 6 years as a tough-on-crime member of the San Francisco County Board of Supervisors and as a prosecutor with Contra Costa County.
Since joining the Legislature, Assemblymember Stefani has not had a very strong voting record for justice reform. Notably, she failed to support AB 1231 (Elhawary), which failed to pass but would have greatly expanded diversion opportunities in CA, ultimately earning a “C” on our Legislative Scorecard.
Public Safety Platform:
On her campaign website, Assemblymember Stefani prioritizes public safety, stating that as a County Supervisor, she “increased police staffing, cracked down on car break-ins, and passed comprehensive gun safety laws.” She emphasizes gun violence prevention and providing services to victims of crime, but also strongly advocates for harsher sentences for people who commit drug-related offenses.
