Background:
Assemblymember Johnson was recently elected to the Legislature in September of 2025 in a special election due to the seat being vacated by former Assemblymember Bill Essayli. She previously served as a City Councilmember and Mayor for Lake Elsinore from 2012-2025.
Since she joined the Assembly at the end of last year’s legislative cycle, she does not have a Scorecard grade for 2025. However, she did join in time to vote no on bills we supported such as AB 1231 (diversion expansion), SB 627 (mask ban for law enforcement), and SB 634 (criminalization prevention for serving the unhoused community).
Public Safety Platform:
On her campaign website, Assemblymember Johnson states her top issue priority is “Holding Criminals Accountable and Strengthening Public Safety”. In this section, she states: “As a local leader, I have worked closely with law enforcement to increase patrols in high-crime areas, supported our police department with critical funding for equipment and training, and stood against policies that handcuffed officers from doing their jobs. As your Assembly member, I will advocate for legislation that restores accountability in our justice system, including tougher penalties for violent repeat offenders, fentanyl traffickers, and organized retail theft. I will fight to repeal laws that have emboldened criminals while undermining the safety of law-abiding citizens.”
