Background:

Assemblymember Solache was elected in 2024, previously serving on the Lynwood City Council and as Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem. Prior to that he served three terms on the Lynwood Unified School District’s Board of Education.

Since joining the Legislature, he has had a decent voting record, earning a “B” on our Legislative Scorecard. He voted in support of most of the justice reform bills we prioritized, but notably abstained on AB 1231, a good bill that failed to pass and would have greatly increased access to court diversion.

Public Safety Platform:

.

Assemblymember Solache’s campaign website does not share much about his public safety platform, simply stating he aims to “keep neighborhoods safe and ensure fast police and fire response times.” He has, however, received significant law enforcement contributions.

Although his voting record is overall not bad, his support from law enforcement is concerning; therefore, IJ Action recommends Assemblymember Solache as the Harm Reduction candidate.

Background:

Paul Jones has served in fire and emergency services and has experience in public safety communications and administration, including leadership roles related to mobile‑data systems and regional homeland‑security coordination. Jones later became active in civic and religious life in California and ran for U.S. Congress and the California State Assembly, emphasizing local control, public safety, and faith‑based values.

Public Safety Platform:

Jones frames public safety around supporting law enforcement, protecting first responders, and strengthening local control over public‑safety decisions. He emphasizes the importance of modern communication networks for police, fire, and emergency medical services and has supported policies that give local communities and first responders greater authority over funding, training, and emergency preparedness. His platform also stresses accountability to local voters and reducing what he describes as overreach by higher‑level government agencies in public‑safety matters.
