Assemblymember Bennett was first elected to the State Assembly in 2020. He had retired from politics for several years, after serving on the Ventura City Council and subsequently the Ventura County Board of Supervisors in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Since joining the Assembly, he has had a good voting record on justice reform, earning a “B” on our Legislative Scorecard in 2023 and 2024, and an “A” in 2025.
Public Safety Platform:
Assemblymember Bennett does not offer his policy proposals on public safety on his campaign website. However, considering his fairly strong voting record in the Legislature and the lack of information from his opponent, IJ Action recommends that voters re-elect Assemblymember Bennett.
