Background:

Sandra Celedon is a public health leader and community advocate born and raised in the district she is running in. She is also the former CEO of Fresno Building Healthy Communities, an organization that provides resources and support to marginalized communities and people impacted by incarceration.

Public Safety Platform:

In her candidate questionnaire submitted to IJ Action, Celedon stated her support for sentencing reforms, providing resources and removing employment barriers for formerly incarcerated people, and addressing mental health and substance abuse issues through a public health lens rather than a criminal lens.

Celedon also voiced strong support for in-prison rehabilitative programming, restoring voting rights to people in prison, and repealing the Three Strikes Law. Because of her alignment with IJ Action’s values and policy priorities, we enthusiastically endorse Sandra Celedon for Assembly.

Background:

Annalisa Perea is an urban planner by profession and is a former Trustee for the State Center Community College District. She currently sits on the Fresno City Council.

Public Safety Platform:

Perea’s views on public safety are largely police-centered. On her campaign website she highlights her support for law enforcement, stating that she “secured millions in public safety funding to hire more firefighters and police officers and helped reduce violent crime through community-based policing strategies.”

She is endorsed by the Peace Officers Research Association of CA, Sanger Police Officers Association, and the Selma Police Officers Association.

Background:

Jim Polsgrove is a retiree who worked as an engineering technician for the City of Fresno.

Public Safety Platform:

On his campaign website, Polsgrove labels a main issue as “out of control crime” and states that if elected: “He will push new laws to hold criminals accountable and support our brave first responders that put their lives on the line each day for you and me. Why aren’t drug dealers charged with murder if their sales lead to death? When organized groups loot stores, why isn’t it labeled organized crime?I’ve seen politicians in Sacramento reduce penalties, putting us all at risk.”
