Background:
Assemblymember Nguyen was first elected to the State Assembly in 2022 after serving on the Elk Grove City Council for five years. She has also sat on the Assembly Public Safety Committee for the last few years, often voting against justice reform measures and supporting criminalization bills, earning an “F” on our Scorecard in 2023 and 2025 and a “D” in 2024.
Additionally, she has authored harmful bills such as AB 46, which failed to pass but would have limited access to mental health diversion, and AB 47, which also failed but would have restricted elderly parole for people with certain sex offense convictions. Assemblymember Nguyen was also one of a handful of Democratic legislators who vocally endorsed Prop 36 which passed in 2024, which rolled back Prop 47, increasing criminal penalties for minor offenses.
Public Safety Platform:
Assemblymember Nguyen is a moderate Democrat who outlines a law enforcement-aligned public safety platform, centered on expanding policing and responding to crime through enforcement. She emphasizes close collaboration with police, makes questionable claims of rising crime, and is heavily backed by law enforcement organizations.
She is endorsed by the Sacramento Police Officers Association, Peace Officers Research Association of California, Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, and other law enforcement lobby groups. In her own words: “There is a reason Stephanie has earned all the support of our local frontline peace officers and over 50,000 law enforcement officers statewide.”

Background:
Vinaya Singh is an IT professional and researcher with a background in computer engineering and management.
Public Safety Platform:
Singh outlines a hardline, tough-on-crime public safety platform centered on enforcement and rolling back major justice reforms. He calls for repealing policies like AB 109 and Propositions 47 and 57, and increasing consequences for criminal behavior. His platform also ties public safety to anti-immigration positions, opposing sanctuary policies, and reflects a punitive, enforcement-first approach with no investment in prevention or community-based safety strategies.
