Background:

Assemblymember Harabedian was elected to the Legislature in 2024 and is a former Mayor and City Councilmember for Sierra Madre. He was also a prosecutor under George Gascón, the former progressive LA County District Attorney.

In his first term in office, Assemblymember Harabedian sat on the Public Safety Committee, voting consistently in support of justice reform legislation, earning an “A” on our Legislative Scorecard in 2025..

Public Safety Platform:

Assemblymember Herebedian focuses on eight policy priorities, including efforts to “[f]und [m]ental [h]ealth treatment to get people off the streets and into long-term supportive care” and “[k]eep [n]eighborhood [s]afe by improving enforcement of our gun laws and investing in rehabilitation” on his campaign website.

He is a member of the Assembly Judiciary and Public Safety Committees where he consistently votes on reform focused public safety legislation. He has authored strong public safety and consumer protection policies, including:

AB 493 Mortgages, which protected homeowners following the LA wildfires by ensuring that interest earned on post-loss insurance funds goes to the homeowner, as opposed to mortgage lenders; and AB 238, which required a mortgage servicer to provide up to 12 months of forbearance to a borrower experiencing financial hardship.

In March 2026, Herebedian introduced AB 1950: Civil Actions: Mediation, a bill that would authorize the Superior Court of Los Angeles County to conduct a pilot program ordering any civil case into mediation regardless of the amount in controversy, in an attempt to “reduce backlog” and “accelerate access to justice.”

Due to his strong voting record and authorship of good bills, IJ Action recommends voters re-elect Assemblymember Harabedian.
