California State Assemblymember

Background:
Assemblymember Valencia was elected to the Assembly in 2022 after working for several years as a legislative staffer and one term on the Anaheim City Council. While in the Assembly, he has had a very poor voting record on justice reform, earning a “D” on our Legislative Scorecard in 2023, and an “F” in 2024 and 2025.
Public Safety Platform:
Valencia does not list a public safety platform on his website or anything public safety related. On his Assemblymember website, he states that he has “worked closely with local police, firefighters, and paramedics to enhance neighborhood safety and improve emergency response times” and that he is “dedicated” to “decreasing crime”, among other priorities.
Given his poor voting record in the Assembly and the significant amount of campaign contributions that he has received from law enforcement, IJ Action has no recommendation in this race.

Rhonda Shader was elected to the Placentia City Council in 2016 and then served two terms as Mayor.
Public Safety Platform:
On her website, Shader uplifts a tough-on-crime narrative, stating: “Californians no longer feel safe in their communities, as radical policies from Sacramento have allowed criminals free reign in our communities. Rhonda will fight to keep violent criminals out of our communities and support our law enforcement officers.”.
