Ballot Designation:
Councilmember/Navy Officer

Background:
Scott Sakakihara is a former Navy Reserve officer, City Councilmember in Union City, and a former employee of surveillance giant Palantir. Sakakihara reportedly left the company in December 2025 over disagreements with the company’s role in surveillance of undocumented communities and his strong opposition to ICE raids.
Public Safety Platform:
While on the Union City Council, Sakakihara states on his campaign website that he “helped hire both more cops and more community service workers, protected public safety funding, and fought for community-oriented policing to ensure a balanced public safety approach.” He states that he increased the police force by 30% and that both crime and police use of force dropped during that time.
On his public safety platform, Sakakihara states that we need more police officers but also expresses support for prevention and re-entry support, stating that California needs: “[V]iolence prevention programs that offer hope and a way out for those who need it, more opportunities for at-risk youth, better support for victims, and stronger re-entry programs for the formerly incarcerated. We also want stricter gun control, and we want ICE agents out of our communities”
Given his mixed rhetoric on public safety, IJ Action recommends supporting Sakakihara as the Harm Reduction candidate in this race.

Businesswoman
Law Enforcement Contributions: The candidate has not raised any campaign funds as of 9/16/26
Background:
Linda Price previously ran unsuccessfully for the Fremont Union High School District in 2022. Other than that, her background information on her campaign website is a little vague, stating she worked to “support” the military through the Department of Defense and worked as an adjunct professor at “seven Bay Area colleges and universities, teaching leadership, management, communication, human resources, and organizational development.”
Public Safety Platform:
Price also makes vague commitments to public safety on her campaign website, stating: “I support strong partnerships between law enforcement and our communities, holding criminals accountable, addressing homelessness with compassion and responsibility, and ensuring our first responders have the resources they need to keep our neighborhoods safe.”
She is endorsed by right-wing organizations such as Reform CA and several local Republican Party clubs.
