Leila Namvar is an Iranian immigrant and labor representative who has worked with the City of Indio since 2005. If elected, she would be the first Muslim and first Iranian American to represent the district.
Public Safety Platform:
Namvar’s campaign website does not offer any policy platforms. However, in an interview with the Orange County Register, she expressed a prevention-first approach to reducing homelessness and public safety. Specifically, she stated: “Focusing on treatment, education, family support, and work-life balance, rather than increasing penalties, will enhance public safety, reduce repeat offenses, and help individuals rebuild their lives” and states that she supports “Expanding after-school programs, job training, and access to good-paying jobs”.
Namvar is also endorsed by progressive ally organizations Courage CA and the Working Families Party. Given her care-first approach to public safety and the extremely poor voting record of the incumbent, IJ Action recommends that voters support Namvar for AD 47.

Public Safety Platform:
Assemblymember Wallis is staunchly against justice reform, stating on his campaign website: “Sacramento has let tens of thousands of dangerous felons out of prison early, lowered penalties for drugs and violent crime, and all the while ‘progressives’ have tried to Defund the Police. I have fought back against these dangerous policies because allowing crime is neither progressive nor liberal.” He also touts his voting record of increasing criminal penalties for fentanyl related offenses and supporting law enforcement and that he “Continued blocking efforts to let violent felons out of prison early.”
