Background:

Assemblymember Caloza was first elected to the Legislature in 2024. Prior to that, she was a Deputy Chief of Staff for CA Attorney General Rob Bonta and Commissioner for Los Angeles Public Works.

In her first term in office she has proven to have a very strong voting record on justice reform, earning an “A+” on our Legislative Scorecard and being one of only a handful of Assemblymembers to do so.

Public Safety Platform:

Assemblymember Caloza lists eight key priorities, including ending gun violence by continuing “taking on the NRA and gun lobby by fighting for common-sense gun restrictions, including safe storage laws, and ensuring guns stay out of the hands of dangerous individuals, including those accused of domestic violence or sexual assault.” To tackle the issue of houselessness, she says she will continue “investing in programs that help unhoused people get off our streets and connect to stable housing, mental health care, addiction treatment, and job training.” Her other priorities focus on communities’ holistic needs, including higher wages, labor protections, investments in education, affordable housing, fighting for reproductive rights as well as climate change.

Assemblymember Caloza also introduced AB 1300, which would have prohibited a state or local government agency from collecting or sharing personally identifiable information with federal immigration enforcement agencies without a judicial warrant or court order.

Caloza states that she “secured millions of dollars in investment to grow key industries — from film and television to firefighter training and recruitment — fueling our local economy and keeping our communities safe.”

Due to her strong justice reform voting record and leadership on other social issues, IJ Action recommends voters re-elect Assemblymember Caloza.

Background:

Although Andrea Lee Anderson has a campaign website, she provides no information about her background or professional experience.

Public Safety Platform:

Her campaign website expresses incredibly harmful and problematic views, including implying that gender-affirming care causes people to commit murder, and states that she opposes Prop 36 not because it increases criminalization, but because it offers drug treatment at all. She also touts false narratives about violent crime and asserts that existing laws are not being enforced.
