Background:

Hayes is President of the Lakeside Union School District Board of Trustees and former District Director for Republican State Senator Brian Jones.

Public Safety Platform:

Hayes’ public safety platform outlines the following: “Crime is out-of-control in California. We must restore law-and-order to the Golden State and make our streets and communities safe again – starting by ending the practice of secretly dumping Sex Predators in our communities, eliminating Prop 47 & 57, and ensuring law enforcement have the tools they need to keep us safe. That’s why Andrew Hayes backs the blue and they back him. He will always support law enforcement as they work to keep our families safe.”

Background:

DeMaio is a former San Diego City Councilmember and current conservative talk-show host. He is also chairman of Reform California, a political action committee that fights against local and state ballot measures that increase taxes.

Public Safety Platform:

On his campaign website, DeMaio boasts his work through Reform California on public safety issues: “California’s liberal politicians are more interested in putting criminals back out on the street and keeping the police from doing their jobs than they are in deterring crime and protecting Californians…These politicians are doubling down on crazy policies that incentivize crime instead of trying to give tools to law enforcement to combat the crime wave we are facing.” DeMaio points to the passage of Proposition 47 and Proposition 57 in California as key drivers of the increase in crime over recent years.

Because both candidates are vocally opposed to justice reform, IJ Action does not recommend either candidate in the AD 75 race.
