Assembly District 60

RECOMMENDED

Corey Jackson (D)

Incumbent Grade A+

Political Party:

Democrat

Ballot Designation:

 State Assembly Member

Law Enforcement Contributions:

None as of 8/23/24

Background:

Assemblymember Jackson was elected to the State Assembly in 2022 after serving two years on the Riverside County Board of Education. He is also a former student member of the California State University Board of Trustees.

Public Safety Platform:

In his first term in office, Assemblymember Jackson has shown himself to be a leader in justice reform. He was a co-author of ACA 4, an IJ Action cosponsored piece of legislation that would place an initiative on the November 2024 ballot to restore voting rights to people in prison. He also introduced AB 855, which reduces interest charged on restitution payments from 10% to 1%; and AB 994, which restricts law enforcement’s ability to post mugshots on social media of people charged with a crime and prevents them from using deadnames of defendants in any posts.

Assemblymember Jackson also did not vote for AB 1990 or AB 1960, two bills strongly opposed by IJ Action, which would have authorized physical custody for petty shoplifting and created new enhancements for property damage, respectively. Meanwhile he voted for important bills such as AB 2709 to strengthen visitation rights and AB 2178 to reduce prison capacity.

Assemblymember Jackson earned an “A” on the IJ Action Legislative Scorecard last year and an “A+” this year, voting to support every bil we prioritized. For these reasons, IJ Action strongly recommends AD 60 voters re-elect Assemblymember Jackson.
