Background:
Garcia is an elected official on the Etiwanda School District Board of Trustees, first elected in 2016. An educator for over twenty years, Garcia has worked as both a math and science teacher and as a school administrator.
Public Safety Platform:
In his endorsement questionnaire, Garcia outlined support for eliminating sentence enhancements and mandatory minimums that don’t improve public safety. He also supported eliminating the Three Strikes Law and acknowledged that retail theft occurs because “… people do not have access to resources they need to thrive.” He also outlined support for ending life sentences without the possibility of parole, and fully funding unarmed crisis responders.
He is endorsed by outgoing Assemblymember Eloise Reyes Gomez, the CA Democratic Party, and the CA Progressive Legislative Caucus. He received the endorsement of IJ Action due to his commitment to justice reform and the fact that he has not accepted law enforcement contributions, unlike his opponent in the race.

Perez is a veteran and a police detective with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department and current elected official on the Fontana Unified School District Board.
Public Safety Platform:
Perez does not have a policy page on his website, however, as a current police detective, he has received endorsements from a dozen law enforcement associations and accepted campaign contributions from eight law enforcement associations. He is also endorsed by Assemblymembers James Ramos and Blanca Rubio, whom earned an “F” and a “D” on the IJ Action Legislative Scorecard, respectively, for their voting record on justice reform.
