Background:
Harabedian is a former Mayor and City Councilmember for Sierra Madre, serving two terms. He is also a current prosecutor under George Gascón with the LA County District Attorney’s Office. Harabedian also worked at the powerful law firm Latham & Watkins, and at Stanford’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, and the Equality Pro Bono Project. He is also a Regional Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.
Public Safety Platform:
Harabedian does not have a written public safety platform, but in separate interviews indicated support for overhauling the Three Strikes Law, but maintained that its focus should be on “violent and serious crimes.” He supports repealing ineffective sentence enhancements and taking an evidence-based approach while also capping the total amount of enhancements that can be applied.
IJ Action recommends AD 41 voters support Harabedian, given that his positions on public safety are more clear and more aligned with IJ Action’s values on criminal justice reform.
