Background:
Vince Fong is the former Assemblymember for the 32nd District, and earlier this year was elected to a partial term in the United States Congress representing the 20th District, and is on the November ballot for CA-20 for a full term as well.
Despite appearing on the AD32 ballot, Fong is not seeking this seat, but his name will appear on the ballot because he withdrew from this race to run for Congress after the candidate registration deadline had already passed. He decided to run for Congress after former Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy resigned from office.
Fong sued California Secretary of State Shirley Weber after she moved to block him from appearing on the congressional ballot, and won that lawsuit. As a result, his name will continue to appear on the Assembly ballot despite his not seeking this seat.
