Background:

 Assemblymember Lee was first elected to the State Assembly in 2020 as its youngest member, being only 25 at the time. He is a former legislative staffer for Senator Henry Stern, and interned for other members including Assemblymembers Evan Low and Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.

Public Safety Platform:

Assemblymember Lee is a strong supporter of progressive policies to end mass incarceration, increase funding for reentry programs, and build the political power of impacted people. This session, Assemblymember Lee was a co-author of ACA 4, an IJ Action cosponsored piece of legislation that would place an initiative on the November 2024 ballot to restore voting rights for people in prison. In prior years, he authored legislation that would have dramatically reduced gun enhancements, and has been an outspoken supporter of repealing harmful laws such as Three Strikes, the death penalty, and life without the possibility of parole. Assemblymember Lee is also chair of the Progressive Caucus.

He earned an “A” on the IJ Action Legislative Scorecard in 2023 and an “A+” in 2024, voting to support all of the good bills we prioritized. Due to his strong voting record and his progressive leadership, IJ Action recommends re-electing Assemblymember Lee.

Background:

Brunton is an electronics manufacturer and perennial candidate for State Assembly who has run in every election since 2014. He is a former elected official who served on the Ohlone Community College Board of Trustees for twelve years.

Public Safety Platform:

Brunton does not have a public safety platform, instead focusing on reforming the civil court system. His platform includes providing public defenders for low and middle income individuals and small businesses.
