Background:
Assemblymember Wilson was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2022. Prior to that she was the Mayor of Suisun City and served on the City Council since 2012. In the Assembly, Wilson Chairs the Legislative Black Caucus.
Public Safety Platform:
This term, Assemblymember Wilson served on the Public Safety Committee and while she often voiced concerns with criminalization bills, she nevertheless joined her colleagues in voting most of them out of committee. However she remains a strong supporter of justice reform, authoring legislation such as ACA 8 which referred Prop 6 to the November 2024 ballot to end slavery and involuntary servitude in California prisons. She was also a co-author of ACA 4, an IJ Action cosponsored bill that failed to pass but would have placed an initiative on the November 2024 ballot to restore voting rights to people in prison.
Assemblymember Wilson received an “A” on the IJ Action Legislative Scorecard in both 2023 and 2024. Despite her disappointing votes on the Public Safety Committee, Assemblymember Wilson has generally been an ally on criminal justice reform and IJ Action recommends her for AD 11.
