Office: Lieutenant Governor
Fiona Ma
Harm Reduction Candidate
- Political Party:
Democrat
- Ballot Designation:
State Treasurer/CPA
- Law Enforcement Contributions:
- Peace Officers Research Association of CA
- CA Correctional Peace Officers Assoc. PAC
- Californians for Safer Neighborhoods Sponsored by Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADs)
- Los Angeles Police Protective League PAC
- Background:
Fiona Ma is a certified public accountant, former Assemblymember, and the outgoing State Treasurer.
- Public Safety Platform:
While her campaign website does not state her public safety views, it is worth noting that during her tenure as Treasurer, she helped pass a law that helped the Santa Ana police union president count his union salary toward his retirement benefits, which was criticized as a misuse of public funds. The Santa Ana Police union contributed significantly toward her reelection campaign the following year. She also went on the record as Treasurer and supported Prop 36 in 2024, which increased criminalization for minor offenses.
Fiona Ma is endorsed by several law enforcement agencies, such as the Peace Officers Research Association (PORAC), the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), and the State Coalition of Probation Officers, as well as Crime Victims United.
While her blatant support for law enforcement is very concerning, IJ Action still recommends voters support Ma as a form of harm reduction, given the extreme right-wing and conspiracy theory views of her opponent. However, given how strongly Democratic California is, Ma is almost guaranteed to win, so feel free to vote your conscience and leave this one blank if you choose.
