Sophia was born and raised in East Oakland, CA. They began community organizing in 2010 within anti-displacement, civic engagement, and environmental justice campaigns in South Central, Los Angeles. Today Sophia is an artist and a chemist, who entered the STEM field to fight for equitable access to clean water. They are an abolitionist, and found empowerment in this work after coping with the incarceration of a family member and the over-policed communities they’re from. Sophia is also committed to working with folks impacted by addiction and sexual violence, and believes we are meant to heal as a community.
