Background:

Assemblymember Cervantes currently represents AD 58 and was elected in 2016. She currently serves as Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus and is also the first openly LGBTQ+ Latina to represent Western Riverside County in the Legislature.

Public Safety Platform:

On her written public safety platform, Assemblymember Cervantes emphasizes support for first responders and firefighters. She also advocates for gun violence prevention and states that she has “a record of standing up to the NRA”.

In the legislature, her voting record has been largely disappointing – she received a D on the IJ Action Legislative Scorecard in both 2023 and 2024, not voting for important bills like AB 2709 which strengthens visitation rights. She also voted no on ACA 6 (which became Prop 17 and restored voting rights to people on parole) in 2020. The extensive list of law enforcement agencies that have contributed to her campaign also is a cause for concern.
