Background

Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry was first elected to the State Assembly in 2016, and prior to that was the first woman Mayor of the small town of Winters, California. She is currently the Majority Leader of the Assembly.

Public Safety Platform

Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry's public safety platform omits any mention of crime and law enforcement, and instead embraces public health, wildfire prevention, addressing poverty and income inequality, and healthcare access as issues of public safety. Aguiar-Curry also improved her grade on IJ Action’s Scorecard, from a “B” last year to an “A” this year. She also stood with IJ Action in not voting for AB 1990, which would have authorized physical custody for all shoplifting cases.

Although Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry has received campaign contributions from several law enforcement agencies during this election cycle, IJ Action recommends that AD 4 voters re-elect her due to her mostly consistent voting record on justice reform.
