Initiate Justice Action

RECOMMENDED

Celeste Rodriguez (D)

Political Party:

Democrat

Ballot Designation:

 San Fernando Mayor

Law Enforcement Contributions: California Association of Highway Patrolmen PAC

Background:

Rodriguez is Mayor and City Councilmember for the City of San Fernando, and was first elected in 2020. Prior to elected office she worked for San Fernando’s Recreation and Community Services Department, followed by the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity.

Public Safety Platform:

Rodriguez does not have a written public safety platform, instead focusing her issues page on economic development, environmental, and housing issues.

However, in a separate interview on criminal justice priorities she outlined support for eliminating sentence enhancements and mandatory minimums, and stated that she was “open” to reforming gun-related enhancements. She also voiced support for reforming California’s Three Strikes Law. She is endorsed by many labor organizations, as well as outgoing Assemblymember Luz Rivas, and progressive elected officials such as Senator Caroline Menjivar and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan.

Given her openness to criminal justice reform, and the extreme views of her opponent, IJ Action recommends AD 43 voters support Rodriguez.
