Incumbent – Grade B
Political Party:
Democrat
Ballot Designation:
State Assemblymember / Teacher
Law Enforcement Contributions:
Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC PAC)
California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA PAC)
Los Angeles Police Protective League PAC
Background:
Assemblymember Addis was first elected in 2022 after serving on the Morro Bay City Council and as Mayor Pro Tem for three years. Prior to entering politics, she was an educator with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District for twenty years.
Public Safety Platform:
Assemblymember Addis does not have a public safety platform on her campaign website, but she has generally voted to support justice reform measures in the legislature. She also did not vote for AB 1990, a bill strongly opposed by IJ Action, which would have authorized physical custody for shoplifting. Addis did worse on IJ Action’s Scorecard this year, dropping to a “B” after earning an “A” last year. She did not vote on AB 544 (Bryan) to expand voting access in jails.
However, given the extremely pro-law enforcement views of her opponent, and her track record of supporting reforms, IJ Action recommends AD 30 voters re-elect Addis.

Republican
Ballot Designation:
Broadcast Journalist / Mom
Law Enforcement Contributions: None as of 8/23/24
Background:
Epperson is Chapter President of the Monterey County Republican Assembly.
Public Safety Platform:
Epperson’s public safety platform, which is titled “Back the Blue,” peddles much misinformation and states the following: “The laws in California are softer each day. $950 Smash and Grab law, shortening the jail time for pedophiles and violent criminals, and so much more. I would have fought against these bills. Crime has been rising all across our state; All violent prisoners are getting released early from their prison terms and are receiving Stimulus Checks as well; The Crisis at the Border wall has greatly increased human trafficking and fentanyl deaths. Drugs flowing over the border now will only have an exponential increase in crime waves as we go forward into 2023-2024.”
