Initiate Justice Action

RECOMMENDED

Monique Limón (D)

Incumbent Grade A

Political Party:

Democrat

Ballot Designation:

 California State Senator

Law Enforcement Contributions:

California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA PAC)
California Association of Highway Patrolmen

Background:

Senator Limón was first elected to the State Senate in 2020 after serving two terms in the State Assembly. Prior to her time in the legislature, she served on the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education.

Public Safety Platform:

Although Senator Limón does not have a public safety platform on her campaign website, she has consistently voted in favor of progressive reforms, earning an “A” on our Legislative Scorecard both in 2023 and 2024. For example Limón voted in favor of SB 1282, which died on the Senate floor, and would have authorized diversion for all felony cases. Also, while in the Assembly, Limón voted in favor of ACA 6 to restore voting rights to Californians on parole. For all these reasons, she is IJ Action’s recommended vote for SD 21.

Background:

Mack is a college student and libertarian activist. He is a first-time candidate for state office.

Public Safety Platform:

Mack’s public safety platform, titled “Justice Reform” outlines the following: “As a Libertarian, I believe our justice system should target crimes of aggression, theft, and fraud first and foremost. I believe in softening sentences for Victimless Crimes, or crimes where no party was defrauded, manipulated, or had violence initiated against them.” On criminalizing drug use, Mack states: “I believe in decriminalizing, but not encouraging drug use. I believe California should focus on offering recovery options to addicts rather than leaving users worse off by throwing them behind bars when guilty only of possession.”

Mack is endorsed by local Republican clubs but not by any other elected official or organization.
